Marijuana, Not Yet Legal for Californians, Might as Well Be

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/21/us/politics/stigma-fading-marijuana-common-in-california.html?_r=0

  • Will legal marijuana laws be able to edge out the black market drug trade?
  • Do you think legalizing what some call a “gateway drug” is a good idea?
  • Do you think the prohibition of marijuana leads to more problems than if it were to be legalized?

  1. I think that legalizing marijuana would decrease the amount of drug trade, meaning less people in prison. Marijuana is one of the most commonly used drugs, and I think with a legalization, there would be less arrests and problems. Some states have already legalized the use of marijuana, not just as a medicine, so I don't see why California wont follow. On the downside, people might become addicted and overuse, and overall, it is not good for a person. But then I think it comes to the question about people's choice and freedom to use. Cigarettes are legal, and they do as much harm as marijuana, so I don't see what's wrong with legalizing it.
