It would appeal to me because now I would be able to know in debt how they picture looks, I would like to know every detail about it. But it would degrade other people making them feel bad about it.
ReplyDeletePersonally, if there was an option to hear a description of someone's post, I would not use it as it is more quicker and easier to just look at a post, examine it, and think about it. I think people who like to hear things more and visualize what's happening rather than observing would like this service such as people who like to use the audible book service.
ReplyDelete1) Personally this does appeal to me that they are adding this feature to Facebook so that disabled people are able to listen to the description of their family members post and pictures. But I am still confused on how Facebook would describe the picture, does that mean that they have to go through everyones pictures and record them describing the picture, or would the person with the disability would have to request for them to describe about what is happening in the picture.
ReplyDelete2) I don't think that there would be a lot of groups that are blind would be on Facebook. The wouldn't be on Facebook unless they are with someone to help direct them to the site so why can't their friend help describe the post for them.
This new feature wouldn't appeal to me personally because I'm not blind, but I do see how this can be beneficial to those who are. My only concern would be that this might seem a little insensitive to the blind. Sure, this feature can help them overcome their handicap and use Facebook more often (which would be great for the company itself), but I can also see how this feature will make them super aware of the fact that they are blind and that their missing out because of it. Therefore, I don't think I can really judge the feature's effectiveness unless the majority of blind people agree that it's useful.
ReplyDelete1. Being able to hear a description of a photo does not appeal to me. A photo can express a thousand words and why hear only one interpretation of it when you can see it for yourself. I feel that the purpose of a photo is to see it rather than hear it. I would not voluntarily hear a description of the photo but rather just see it for myself.
ReplyDelete2. Another group other than the blind who can use this service is elderly people maybe? They might prefer listening to it while doing stuff around the house rather than just sitting there and looking at the screen. Although I think that this feature is more of a preference rather than technology advancing.
3. I'm not so sure the automatic alternative text feature will catch on in the future. I think it shows that technology is advancing but I just don't think it would be used since it would be more of a preference.
